Representatives of the Directorate and South-East Finland – Russia CBC Programme visited the cycle path construction site in Svetogorsk to check the progress of works within the project «Cycling».
Project manager on the side of the lead project partner Yuri Pavlov guided the Programme expert Valentina Chaplinskaya along the route of the cycle path. He shared information on the main results and achievements and answered the expert’s questions.
The Directorate’s contractor has resumed construction activities at every section of the prospective cycle path after the cold period. As of today, the works are being carried out in accordance with the schedule.
At the section on the bridge over Unterniska River the contractor continues leveling bridge barriers. Grinding of pedestrian fences has begun on the bridge over Gryazny Creek. The base for asphalt laying has been prepared, and street lighting poles are being installed at Sportivnaya street. Equipment of the BCP Svetogorsk with elements of cycling infrastructure will begin soon, in the second half of May.
Upon examination the lead partner received a positive review from the Programme expert who was satisfied with the pace of construction and communication between all the parties involved in the project implementation.
At the end of May, the Directorate plans to hold in collaboration with the Ladoga Center, organization coordinating activities on prevention of road accidents involving kids in the Leningrad Region, a seminar for middle school pupils in Svetogorsk with the help of mobile playground with the main elements of road traffic. It will make it possible to demonstrate to the kids how traffic rules for cyclists work and teach them through practice necessary skills for safe cycling. The seminar is timed to the beginning of the active cycling season and the last stage of the cycle path construction.
According to plan, all the construction activities within the project will be finished by July, 2021.
Project «Adaptation of new approaches to develop cycling and cycling routes between Russia and Finland to improve safety, mobility and environment, and to promote social development (the case: Svetogorsk – Imatra cycle track)» (project «Cycling») is implemented by the Directorate since 2018 in collaboration with the City of Imatra, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of the South-East Finland and City of Svetogorsk with financial support from the South-East Finland – Russia CBC Programme, Government of the Leningrad Region and the Ministry of Transport of Russia.
